The Wedding of Maureen and Mark

On the surface, being photographers of a wedding seems like a fairly straightforward job – to take photographs of the event. But then there are wildly many iterations on how to go about this – style, level of involvement, type of intricacies, etc. One thing relevant to today’s post is on how honest a coverage is. I absolutely agree that there are a lot of things that are insignificant or ugly which would be better left untold. Yet there are those that put to light many beauitful things despite its unpleasant nature during that certain moment.

After a series consisting of four posts about their pre-wedding shoot (the most we did ever) many of our followers probably know who Maureen and Mark are already. Our bond with these two goes beyond that 11-day South America trip, as we struggled together to survive the altitude sickness in the Andes mountains of Peru. And as if those weren’t enough, during the middle of their wedding ceremony in San Agustin church, Mark lost conciousess and fell to the floor in front of the altar – throwing everyone into a hysteria. I heard the loud thud and saw a horrifying sight when I turned around – not only is this the first time I’ve seen such a thing, but this is someone I know and bonded with, lying motionless. I wanted to help, I wanted to cry, I wanted to ask what happened or what we could do but I just literally froze – in denial and in full disbelief. It would take another 15 grueling minutes including another brief loss of concousness before Mark can convince everyone that he is ok to finish the ceremony.

The air of concern was still all over and only after Mark came back from the hospital with a go signal from the doctor did everything turn back to somewhat normal. He got a go to not only to proceed with the reception celebration but also to drink (he made sure to ask that).

I can just imagine how a roller coaster of an emotion this was especially for Maureen and their families. There you are, celebrating the happiest day of your life, when everything seem to just take a full turn and then back again. And that’s the story we want to share here, the complete and honest one.

There was no documentation of the incident except for the standby camera of the videographers and we’ve asked permission to share that with all of you. This video, together with the photos in this post, tell us that why we tell beautiful stories all the time, sometimes they take a detour. But like they always say, all is well that ends well. Thank you to Maureen and Mark for everything, from South America to your wedding, I think it is safe to say that you guys are the most unforgettable couple we’ve had.

i guess the lesson to learn here is to never forget to eat and drink on your wedding day no matter how busy you are… or recharge that sugar with any small piece of candy or chocolate… thank God he is fine and his head is not seriously hurt… cheers, though, this made it unique and more memorable wedding 🙂
